A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
