Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often defined by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
