Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind a series of unforgettable images favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, such as the pastel suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

This news arrives just weeks after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in designing sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included various looks for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a true visionary whose legacy on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
