Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss

Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his position after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got significant backing from above,” Slot stated.

“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”

He added, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this game so far so we'll see.”

Recurring Failings and Player Reaction

The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with performances so bad.”

Jones finished, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we will always battle.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
