Iran Reports Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a large-scale and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is not yet known and the US has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have shot down missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the the regime, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with notable success and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
