The Details Known Concerning the Those Lost of the Bondi Beach Shooting

A minimum of 16 individuals were killed and in excess of 40 sustained injuries when attackers opened fire at a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident local police have called a terrorist attack.

As of the newest reports, officials have stated the number of fatalities stands at 16, encompassing one of the alleged attackers. Furthermore, 42 wounded individuals were admitted to medical facilities.

London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.

Known as a father of five children, he worked as the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and acquaintances spoke of him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who loved to help people”.

“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a relative remarked.

Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their youngest child just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.

She described the moments before the attack, saying they had been standing together when the shooting erupted. “He shielded me because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.

The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured unspeakable terror in their youth. They had later immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

The French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

Officially, the Foreign Minister declared that France mourned with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must put a stop to,” the statement read.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was a fatality during the attack, according to multiple sources referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people taken to hospitals, a significant number are still under care, with several in critical condition. Those hurt comprise two officers who attended the scene.

A wounded man is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is recovering well in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Reports indicate he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.

He wrote, he recounted the scene as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He said he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the shooting. He told reporters he listened to “dozens and dozens” of shots.

“I thought it was something less lethal, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I was hit. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
